The house's operators say that since 1923, guests and employees have reported hearing voices and footsteps when no one was there, feeling an unexpected presence, and seeing figures in the halls. The operators suggest some of the spirits said to linger may be former members of Sarah Winchester's household staff or later museum staff, and state that they cannot say what causes the experiences.
