The Spanish Military Hospital Museum is a living history museum at 3 Aviles Street in St. Augustine, Florida, interpreting Spanish colonial medicine of the Second Spanish Period through guided tours with surgical and apothecary demonstrations 1, 2. The museum also runs adults-only evening tours built around the harshest treatments of the period, which its own announcement describes as not for the squeamish 3. Visitors commonly describe cold spots in the ward and surgery rooms, the sense of being watched during tours, and footsteps or voices heard when no one else is in the building.
